NOW IS THE TIME ...

Hotel Golf Fields Yellow

to decide if you want this land in Long Whatton (the picture shows only a small part of it) to remain in food production and as pleasant open countryside. The current planning application wants to turn it into two golf courses, a golf academy and a 400 bedroom hotel requiring 1000s of new traffic movements daily.
NOW IS THE TIME TO ENSURE THAT YOUR VIEWS ARE HEARD!
Whatever they are, write to the Planning Departments at North West Leicestershire District Council and Charnwood Borough Council and the District and County Councillors. (This Council has already made its views known!). For full details, see below and the Councils' websites.

Crops or Golf Balls? - Decision Time

The picture above shows just a part of the application site (looking south from the B5324 towards Shepshed) on which the Parish Council has been consulted. The proposal is for a 400 bed hotel and two golf courses at Woodland Farm, Hallamford Road, Long Whatton. For details - you can quickly access the application itself by clicking 'Planning Applications' (left) or via the nwleics.gov.org website. You can send your own comments this way.

The Parish Council called a Public Meeting in Long Whatton on 15th May about this application. Very strong feelings were expressed and all present were opposed to the proposal. MP David Taylor and Councillors Nick Rushton, Lesley Pendleton, Trevor Pendleton, Martin Hening, Sue Roberts, Andy Cawdell, Mick Downs and Tom Wilkins all fully supported the opposition to the proposals.
Full details of the application can be seen on the Planning website (details above).
This website will keep this space up-to-date as far as possible with key information and developments as they become known. At the moment the following are important:
# Everyone who wishes to let the Planners know their views on the application should do so - in writing, by email or via the Planning website. Do this to North West Leicestershire District Council and/or to Charnwood Borough Council as appropriate. Do it as soon as you can but note that you can do so right up to the day of the Planning Committee at which the decision will be taken.
# NOW IS THE TIME to act if you haven't already done so.
# WATCH THIS SPACE for information but don't leave sending your views till the last minute. The Committee meeting at which the decision is taken will be open to the public to attend.

# See Parish Council News for full report of Public Meeting

Affordable housing ... the next step

THE SURVEY FORMS have been delivered and returned confidentially to the Leicestershire Rural Housing Enabler. The Parish Council thanks everyone who took part - we understand that there has been a very positive response. Right now, a report is being prepared for submission to the Parish Council at its meeting on 7th August.
# We'll keep you informed - Watch this Space!

VILLAGES ON COURSE TO THE FUTURE
Diseworth and Long Whatton people's wishes for the future of their villages are set in their PARISH PLAN, launched earlier this year after a big two year effort. Many requirements identified are already under way. The full summary of the Plan is available: CLICK HERE ...

ON THE AUGUST AGENDA

(No meeting in July)
Topics so far to be considered at the meeting on 7th August:
# The Affordable Housing Survey will have been completed and the Rural Housing Enabler will present the Report of its findings.
# Mowing of grass verges etc. is simply not happening or is being done badly. Complaints about this and other highways matters appear to be falling on deaf ears. Frustration has been mounting and the response from the Director of Highways will be considered.
# Proposed 20mph speed restriction outside Diseworth School arising from the school transport plan. Approval given and the amendment proposed by this Council for re-siting one of the signs is likely to be accepted.
# The youth shelter has now arrived in Diseworth.
# Planning - the proposal to extend the airport runway is back. Consideration will be given at the meeting - a public meeting may be called.
# There will be an update on the issues surrounding a local residents' campaign for community access to Long Whatton Community Centre.
# Again this year, the County Council is inviting nominations to celebrate the International Day of Older People. The theme this year is "The Creative Age" - why not tell Councillors who you think might be worthy of nomination...
# Similarly, the District Council is inviting nominations for the Respect Challenge 2008 - funding is available and a young person can be nominated for an award.
# Applications are invited to become a Trustee of the Rural Community Council and also that Council has sent out an 'Evaluation Questionnaire'
# The major issue of "airport parking" in Diseworth is taxing Councillors' minds - the best way forward is a little uncertain but steps are being taken to get this sorted out. A public meeting is proposed.
# All the Planning consultations since the last meeting are either reported on or will be dealt with. The decisions taken by the planning authorities will be reported.
... and more - the full agenda and the minutes of the previous meeting can be viewed (usually by the Friday before the meeting) by clicking on Minutes Archive and downloading them. Click on Meetings Calendar for details of future meetings.
