Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations

The Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations have been put in place in order to help to ensure the effective re-use of information produced in the Public Sector. (Please note the Freedom of Information Act (2000) and Environmental Information Regulations (2004) promote access to information, not re-use – e.g. selling the disclosed information.)

The Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) lists the main objectives of the Regulations as being:

  • The ready identification of public sector documents that are available for re-use
  • The availability of many public sector documents for re-use at marginal cost
  • Clarity of any charges to be made for re-use (with an explanation of basis of the charge being available on request).

The Council is not obligated to make public sector information available for re-use. However, it will endeavour to do so wherever possible in accordance with the obligations set-out in the regulations.

How to make a request to re-use information

If you want to make a request to re-use any Council information please email us including detail of the information you would like to re-use and confirmation of how you have access to that information, your name and address, and the purpose for which you wish to re-use the information;

Alternatively you can send the above information to the Council.

Upon receipt of your request the Council has 20 working days to respond either granting permission to re-use (potentially with conditions for use) or refusing permission to re-use (in which case reasons must be given). You have the right to appeal any ruling you disagree with.
